IABC and IABC DC Metro
IABC serves professionals in the field of business communication, bringing together collective disciplines of the profession. IABC delivers the global standard in communication through educational offerings, certification, awards programs, an expansive resource library, the Catalyst online magazine, IABC podcast (the PodCatalyst), as well as an amazing annual international conference. IABC is the only global association for communication professionals.
IABC DC Metro, which is part of the IABC Heritage Region, is aligned with IABC goals and ethics, specifically serving professional communicators in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Here’s a brief overview of how you can learn, engage, and grow as a member of IABC and the IABC DC Metro Chapter.
LEARN
IABC offers access to global and local education events in person and online. Whether your specialty is public relations, corporate communications, journalism, writing, editing, videography, design, marketing, or another field, we’ll provide frequent opportunities to learn something new.
All members are invited and encouraged to attend the annual IABC World Conference, packed with inspiring keynote speakers and simultaneous tracks of breakout sessions providing topics for every area of communications. You’ll learn best practices, what’s trending, and walk away with new tools, resources, and ideas for your communications toolbox.
Members may also pursue professional certification through the Global Communication Certificate Council, giving a strategic leg up on the competition.
As a member of IABC DC Metro, you also benefit from IABC Heritage Region resources. You are invited to participate in an annual conference and take advantage of many professional development opportunities offered throughout the region, throughout the year.
At the chapter level, IABC DC Metro also offers virtual and in-person events with great guest speakers and provides local referrals and resources to support your communication and professional growth needs.
ENGAGE
As an IABC member, you have a unique opportunity to meet communication professionals from around the globe. Don’t miss our social or professional networking events. When you attend an IABC World Conference, you’ll have opportunities to network with thousands of communicators. Too big? You can narrow your networking to the IABC Heritage region, which includes 17 states plus Washington D.C. Our own IABC DC Metro chapter serves communication professionals in Maryland, Virginia and D.C., delivering opportunities near your own back yard.
There are many opportunities to contribute your expertise as a volunteer working with others at the international, regional, and chapter levels. Select a volunteer experience that you’d like, based on the scope of work and hours that work for you. Most of what IABC volunteers do is done remotely, with flexible hours. But there are also in-person and group volunteer opportunities if you’d prefer more group engagement.
