Diane Rehm Book Club — “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story” by Nikole Hannah-Jones
February 23, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
To honor Black History Month, the Diane Rehm Book Club selection for February is “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story”, created by Nikole Hannah-Jones. The book is an expansion of The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning issue that sought to reframe our country’s history, placing slavery at the center of the American story.
Through 18 essays and 36 poems and works of fiction, the book explores our past and present, explains inequalities that exist today and illuminates moments of struggle and resistance.
Join Diane Rehm and a panel featuring contributors to “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story” for an in-depth conversation about a work that has won prizes, inspired backlash, and pushed readers to think about U.S. history in new and profound ways.
You are welcome to submit any questions here for Diane and guests. You’ll also have an opportunity to share feedback and ask questions during the virtual event.
Registration: To participate, you must register by 12 p.m. ET on February 23. All registered participants will receive an email with instructions on how to connect to our virtual event on Zoom. Live closed captioning will be available. We will also live stream the event on Facebook. You can tune in on the Diane Rehm Facebook page, with or without a Facebook account.
