Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration

The public is invited to these free events. Registration is requested but not required.
11 AM: Marchers will meet at the Tinner Hill Civil Rights Monument located at South Washington St. (Lee Hwy) and Tinner Hill Road. Sign making and family activities will take place. Those not vaccinated must wear masks and social distancing is required. Public parking available at 455 South Maple Ave., Falls Church, VA 22046.
12 Noon: The March proceeds from the monument, down South Washington St. (Lee Hwy) to The Falls Church Episcopal. There will be signs along South Washington St. to honor the African Americans whose land was taken by eminent domain in 1922 to build a road to honor the Confederate General (Robert E. Lee) who fought to keep their ancestors enslaved.
Attendees will gather outside on the church grounds at 115 East Fairfax St., Falls Church, VA 22046. There will be limited seating for those who cannot stand.
Parking is available in the church parking lot, entrance on East Broad St. (Rt. 7), street parking on East Fairfax St. & Douglass Ave., and the public lot at the George Mason Square.
1:00 PM: The Commemorative Program speaker will be U.S. Representative Don Beyer.
NOTE: Per Virginia COVID protocol, those not vaccinated must wear masks and maintain six feet of physical distance. Anyone entering the church MUST wear a mask.
